Well, the journey was nice but the ending was a bit of a letdown. It was as satisfying as a story that ends with it all being a dream. We follow two sets of women. One in the past with lots of foreshadowing about a gruesome crime. Out of the two sets of women this set is the more relatable one.
The other pair of women is in the present visiting the same villa where this gruesome crime took place. The ladies in the present become obsessed with the events of the past and using them for their own purposes.
These women are not relatable. Their relationships with each other is not believable. They excuse bad behavior with, Oh we are like sisters or claim its some sort of feminism. It’s not okay.
Yes, we forgive family for things other people cannot get away with. However, there are limits and it’s not a free pass to do what you want.
As for this gruesome crime…. I’ll just say that with all the lead up I was expecting more. There are some other twists at the end. It’s up to the reader to interpret the events. It does give you things to think about and has you mentally revisiting parts of the story to make sense of it.
I’m just disappointed that the book didn’t deliver a more gruesome or complex crime. I feel like the foreshadowing and mystery of the story was a promise not fulfilled.
