I love this one!  This one just hits me right.  Mostly because I have a 15 year old daughter and can relate.  There is just something so precious and perilous with a mother daughter relationship.

The mom in this story is far more interesting than me. However, we are in the same stage of life and both love our daughters.  There are so many little details that are relatable.  The secret smiles, the inside jokes… the disconnect.  Here is a quote of the book that spoke to me.

“Emily (daughter) – I made a total idiot of myself at breakfast.  This trip was giving me a head ache. I wish my mom and I were getting along better.  I could have really used a hug… I was totally getting my period…”

“Jessica (mom) – I was hiding from Emily who was almost certainly getting her period.  I wish we were getting along better.  I could have definitely used a hug. “

This book is literature which I typically avoid and definitely don’t reread. I can see myself rereading this one. It is lighthearted yet hits on so many truths that are relatable. This is a transition period for both mom and daughter. This keeps things interesting.
