Expectations – Dolly! Dolly is impressive and I’m a fan of her even though I don’t listen to country music. When it comes to James Patterson I have some mixed feelings. I have read one too many gut punch scenes from him to be trustworthy.
What is it about music that makes you tear up? There is some of that here. All of the country music parts are fantastic and at times seems like the lead female has it a little too easy making it in the music industry. However, there is her mysterious past. I felt myself wondering why we aren’t addressing this past AT ALL and don’t have many hints of what it is.
The past finally shows up in the last hour and a half of the book and it’s awful. I blame James Patterson for that. While I understand these country stars need tragic beginnings…. But Really. The past makes you question the whole book. With a past like that the female lead should have many many issues which did not present itself.
There is a music album with 12 songs from the book by Dolly Parton. I’m listening to it now. It makes me want to see the movie or series based off the book. There is plenty of material for them to work with.
