Over the last 6 months I’ve listen to 20 that’s right 20 of Shelly Laurenston’s audiobooks so it’s safe to say I’m a fan.  This particular audiobook was the last on my list to finish.  It isn’t one of the stronger books in my opinion.  I suggest starting with any of the books with the badgers or bears.  Those are my favorite.

What you need to realize is that the characters are quite ridiculous.  The breeds have their different quirks which I love.  No one is really polite. If they are annoyed they will let you know.  The characters however, never take it personally.

These are shifters so you get the advanced healing which is always fun because they can take more damage without dying.  The bedroom scenes are always HOT.

The Beast in Him features Jessie Ann and Bobby Ray Smith.  Yes, I know overly country names.  Jessica is geeky and quirky.  She is a wild dog who likes karaoke, chocolate and running away.  Bobby Ray Smith, aka Smitty to his friends is a wolf that runs a security firm.  He is from the Smith family known for sticking together and shouldn’t be crossed.

There are a couple of conflicts in the story. One is that Smitty wants to put Jessie on a pedestal and court her proper but Jessie wants the authentic Smitty.  Another is that a distant Smith relative is a threat to one of Jessie’s pack. She doesn’t want Smitty to get into conflict with his kin.

Off topic – If you love a geeky girl lead try Penny Reid’s Elements of Chemistry Series

One of the great things about a Shelly Laurenston book is that you know there will be a happily ever after.  Another is that none of the main characters die.  There are themes that run through some of the books but not so much that it is a problem reading out of order.
